If you have a ton of junk and clothing in your basement and garage it is time to have a garage or yard sale. This is a great way to sell the box of formal prom dresses that is cluttering up your storage space. These sales let you make some money while cleaning out your garage. Having a yard sale takes some planning so be sure to get started at least a couple of weeks before the sale. Here are a few tips on how to make the most of your yard sale:

Price Realistically – While you may think the baby booties are worth $5, most people won’t so make sure you keep your price expectations realistically. Be prepared to negotiate as well, garage sale people love to haggle over price so if you are easily offended by low ball offers on your possessions you might want to let someone else handle customer service.

Advertise – This is the most important thing to remember. Get the word out, if no one know about your sale, no one will come and you will be stuck hauling all of your goods to the Goodwill store or even worse, back to your basement. Put an ad in the local paper and cover the area in signs advertising the time, and dates of your sale.
